Easier access, lower fees pending for Secretary of State’s Office

A measure aimed at making transactions between businesses and the secretary of state more efficient garnered unanimous support today in the House Economic and Business Development Committee.

Senate Bill 123, sponsored by Sen. Scott Renfroe  R-Greeley, and Rep. J. Paul Brown, R-Durango, would among other provisions offer the public greater online search functionality and reduce filing fees through consolidation of multiple entities.

Brown said the changes represent needed and useful improvements.

“This allows the Secretary of State’s Office to be more efficient and more consumer-friendly,” said Brown.

According to the Secretary of State’s Office, the upgrades will be paid for out of existing revenues within the department from fees paid by businesses, and the work will be done internally with the office’s own internet technology team.

Still, Rep. John Soper, D-Thornton, while supportive of the proposal, expressed concerns about the functionality of the upgrades. …see full story by the Colorado News Agency
